LOCATION
Blacksmith's Cottage is the perfect base for exploring East Anglia with Suffolk's beautiful countryside on your doorstep and the stunning heritage coastline approximately one hour away. Lavenham is set in the heart of rural Suffolk between Bury St Edmunds and Sudbury. There is easy road access from the A134 with ample free parking in the village. The local train stations are Sudbury, Bury St Edmunds, Stowmarket and Colchester. Lavenham is surrounded by wonderful market towns in every direction so there is always something to do if you fancy venturing out. Idyllic country walks and cycle routes are aplenty. Lavenham itself has lots to offer, and if you don't fancy cooking, just take your pick from the great selection of pubs and restaurants within walking distance, including Number Ten which is just next door!

Guided tours of the village are available to book through the tourist center which is located just moments from the cottage; or for the tech savvy, an audible self guided tour is available as a free downloadable app. You'll be led on a journey through the narrow, winding streets filled with crooked timber framed buildings and learn about the history of this once thriving wool town. Home to over 300 ancient buildings, many of which are listed, including Blacksmith's Cottage. Visiting the beautiful Church of St Peter and St Paul is a must as well as The Guildhall which today, houses a national trust museum.
Why not pop in to The Swan for a lavish lunch or enjoy a glass of wine at Number 10 just next door to the cottage. There is something to do to suit every occasion in Lavenham - if it's a special one, a romantic meal for two at the award winning Great House restaurant in the Market Place comes highly recommended. Or, how about a relaxing spa pamper day at Weavers House just around the corner from Blacksmith's Cottage. Traditional afternoon tea at Lavenham Blue Vintage Tea Rooms is very popular! Or you could visit Lavenham Falconry for an experience day flying and learning about their beautiful birds of prey!

Nearby Long Melford is certainly worth a visit, a well-known hunting ground for antiques collectors as well as boasting some lovely galleries, eateries and two exquisite manor houses which are open to the public throughout the year. Kentwell Hall is a beautiful moated tudor house set in extensive gardens and tranquil parkland. Melford Hall, a wonderful historic stately home which has been in the care of the National trust since 1960. Beatrix Potter was a frequent visitor at Melford Hall, drawing inspiration from the house and gardens.
